A Creative Journey Rooted in Culture and Craftsmanship

Soniya, the visionary behind Soni Studio, is a first-generation Nepali-American born and raised in Queens, NY. At just 25 years old, Soniya has turned her lifelong passion for art and design into a thriving creative business. Soni Studio is more than just a brand; it’s a reflection of her cultural heritage, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit.

How Did Soni Bean Begin?

Soniya shares that her creative journey began long before Soni Bean became a reality. With a background in Fashion and Design, she always dreamed of starting her own brand but didn’t feel ready until the pandemic gave her the time and space to explore her ideas.

“I started with jewelry, which felt natural, and then expanded to candles, trinkets, and homeware pieces. I feel truly in my element when I’m creating,” she says. Soni Studio embodies her love for all things handmade, ensuring she’s involved in every step of the process.

The Evolution of Soni Bean’s Vision

From the start, Soniya was committed to designing and crafting her products by hand. While the identity of the brand continues to evolve, her dedication to quality and authenticity remains steadfast.

“I’m experimental and open to change,” she explains. “That’s how I’ve learned and grown as an entrepreneur.”

Cultural Roots in Every Design

As a Nepali-American, Soniya’s heritage plays a significant role in her work. Jewelry, a symbol of identity and celebration in Nepali culture, inspires her creations.

“Jewelry is a huge part of Nepali culture,” she says. “It’s symbolic and allows for self-expression, just like fashion. I want to celebrate that through my designs.”

Overcoming Challenges as an Entrepreneur

Time management has been one of Soniya’s biggest hurdles, especially balancing her full-time job and her creative outlet.

“Having Soni Studio has been therapeutic for me,” she shares. “I’m still finding the best workflow, but I hope to pursue this full-time one day.”

Her determination to find balance and her passion for her craft fuel her drive to keep growing her business.

What Brings the Most Joy?

For Soniya, the best part of running Soni Studio is connecting with her customers.

“I love seeing people wear my jewelry or show appreciation for my designs. It’s a constant reminder of why I started this journey,” she says. “Those moments make me proud and motivate me to keep going.”

Making an Everyday Impact

Soniya is always brainstorming new ideas and launches to ensure her brand remains fresh and impactful. She’s also working toward a healthy work-life balance to maintain her creativity and passion.

“I want to ensure that Soni Studio reflects my values and continues to bring joy to people’s lives,” she explains.

Advice and Reflections

Soniya acknowledges the challenges of running a business but emphasizes the importance of self-care and persistence.

“Take healthy breaks,” she advises. “Sometimes stepping away from a problem gives you a fresh perspective. Remember, there’s always a solution.”

Soniya’s journey is a testament to the power of creativity, resilience, and cultural pride. Experience the artistry and intention behind Soni Bean.

Q+A

  • I always knew I was going to be an entrepreneur. Everyone in my family owns a business of some sort, so that is all I saw growing up. My parents taught me the importance of having your own and not relying on others. They have been very supportive throughout this journey.

  • Both! I love being social but I also love my alone time.

  • Movies/sitcoms

  • I love to go thrifting!

  • I was really able to see who genuinely supported me when I started Soni Studio. My business is important to me and those who knew that, supported it too and that's all that matters.

  • If I was to give my younger self any advice it would be to not worry too much or rush things. Great things take time.
